Pathology

What is Pathology ?

Pathology is the medical specialty that deals with the study and diagnosis of disease by examining organs, tissues, cells, and bodily fluids. Pathologists, who are medical doctors with specialized training in pathology, analyze samples obtained from patients through biopsies, surgical procedures, or other means to identify the nature and extent of diseases or abnormalities.

There are several branches of pathology, including:

1) Anatomic Pathology: This branch involves the examination of tissues and organs under a microscope to diagnose diseases such as cancer, infections, and inflammatory conditions. It includes specialties like surgical pathology, cytopathology (the study of cells), and autopsy pathology.

2) Clinical Pathology: Also known as laboratory medicine, clinical pathology focuses on the analysis of bodily fluids, such as blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid, as well as other specimens like bone marrow and body fluids. It includes disciplines such as clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and immunology.
